Key Responsibilities:
The Swimming Instructor reports directly to the Head of PE and Sport and is responsible for the effective teaching and coaching of swimming. In particular, the Swim Instructor will work closely with the Physical Education and Sport and Activities teams to plan, deliver, and evaluate both curriculum PE swimming and swim team before and after school sessions in line with the Shrewsbury International School Swimming Curriculum. Candidates should be willing to bring innovation, passion and a love of swimming to an already inspired Department. The candidate should also have a willingness to be a reflective practitioner who could further enhance teaching and learning.
Professional Expectations: The Swim instructor should have the following qualities:
• Has experience in teaching swimming to children with a range of ages and preferably holds a recognised swimming teaching or coaching qualification.
• A knowledge of learn to swim and competitive swimming pathways.
• Be able to plan, deliver, and evaluate swim teaching and coaching sessions to swimmers of all abilities. Leading groups within both the PE Curriculum swimming lessons and You Time Swimming
• Be able to cover as needed within either the You-Time swimming program or curriculum Swimming lessons.
• Be available for all swim meets and time trials attended by Shrewsbury International School including those at weekends.
• To assist with the preparation of swim meets hosted or attended by Shrewsbury International School including those at weekends and overseas.
• Act as a lifeguard as required by the school.
• Be available to conduct the swimming programme (for selected groups) during school holidays.
• Have good English language skills in speaking, reading and writing.
• Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Be conscientious, efficient and organised.
• Participate in training and ongoing professional development and where appropriate lead sessions across the school community.
• Be a dedicated team player – good-natured, willing to learn and flexible in approach.
• Be willing to carry out other assigned work as considered appropriate by the Head of PE and Sport /or The Principal.
